Artist Statement

My work lives in the realm of the autobiography in order to reflect and redefine my identity. I am interested in exploring ideas of self, family, and memory. I revisit my past in an attempt to absolve myself of it. Since my work is linked to my memories and stories of my family’s past, I use media that I associate with childhood iconography: drawing, painting, puppetry, and animation. I strive to show a complete narrative of inward thoughts crossing over between these media as I isolate the figure in a dichotomy of escaping and dwelling in both self-compassion and self-loathing.
